Delicious Dordogne

An exciting new offer from Chateau Lalinde:
‘The Delicious Dordogne Experience’

A ten-day experience which offers you the delights of the Dordogne region -- the food, the history, the culture -- served to you on a silver platter!

You will be based in a 13th century fairy castle where you go to sleep – and wake up to the sound of the river and the swans' conversations. You will explore the rich tapestry of the Aquitaine history. You will wander through cobble stone alleys of medieval bastide towns, picnic in Richard the Lion Heart's back garden, walk in the footsteps of prehistoric man, and enjoy the long balmy evenings - eating local fare with the locals in village squares and chateau courtyards.

Depending on the region’s summer calendar, you may get the opportunity for a leisurely stroll through brocante and antique markets, or to listen to beautiful music in an ancient church, or gaze in wonder at the fireworks the French do so well. You will shop for fresh produce at the local markets, taste - and learn about the best wines France has to offer, play petanque in the village square while sipping a glass of Monbazillac, enjoy a candle-lit dinner under the trees at a world-renowned artist's home, sample a Michelin Star chef's cuisine, visit at least one famous chef's kitchen and learn a few secrets from the masters.

It is a ten-day programme of discovering the best the beautiful Dordogne region has to offer – a programme that will delight, entertain, surprise - and awaken the senses!

Visits to:
Delicious Dordogne

We will also spend time marvelling at the fresh produce, the colour and smells and sounds of the local farmers’ markets, at Issigeac, Sarlat, Lalinde

And visit the kitchens and have the opportunity to learn from the real master chefs at Le Cariol, , Chateau les Merles,   and the Michelin starred Le Vieux Logis, before sitting down and enjoying French cuisine at its very best.

A few of the other local friends who await us to awaken our tastebuds are, interalia, Yannick in his old tobacco drying shed, Les Truffieres – where he serves all things ‘duck’, Edith at Restaurant de l’Abbaye with her unequalled Touraine garlic soup, Julien at his acclaimed restaurant in Paunat with his personal charm and delicious cuisine

The programme is truly one of discovery and delight – something for everyone, everything for each one in the group. It is, however, adjustable and adaptable to the group and there will be time to simply sit on the terrace at Chateau Lalinde and enjoy the magnificent view, watch the swans and the rich birdlife, relax next to the pool or go for a walk across the bridge and up to the little chapel where St Front killed the dragon.

Wilna Wilkinson

Wilna Wilkinson, the owner of Chateau Lalinde is a Eurocentric African with a gypsy spirit who has, for the past 30 years, travelled and worked all over the world as a professional speech writer, corporate trainer and motivational speaker, regaling and convincing audiences from Iceland to Mexico, Japan to Canada, Malawi to Brisbane, Birmingham to Bangkok, to believe in themselves and to speak up for that which they believe in. Eight years ago she moved to the Dordogne which she has now made her home. Here – when she is not travelling, she continues her writing, painting, teaching, and hosting musical and literary dinner evenings, her monthly Soirée for Interesting Women -- and her joyful journey of discovery.

“I am passionate about my new adopted home, the history, the culture, the food and the wonderful way of life,” Wilna explains. “This is the region my ancestors had to leave in 1682 to travel to South Africa. Now I am back – and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to welcome friends, old and new, into my beautiful home and share this Delicious Dordogne with them!”
